Athif - following the footsteps of his father

CRICKET: Carey College has got an up-and-coming cricketer in Athif Nazeer who is going great guns in junior cricket. At the recent Schools Junior Cricket Awards for 2007, Nazeer won the award for the Most Promising Junior Cricketer.

In matches in the under 13 cricket tournament, Nazeer scored 917 runs and took 34 wickets and he was way ahead of the other eight award winners.Arthif Nazeer is the son of Farook Nazeer who played for Carey in his young days. He is the second junior cricketer from Carey to win such a title after 1979. His father Farook won the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association under 15 Best Allrounder's title in his young days. He is a stylish top order batsman and is also a fast bowler like his father and his one ambition is to represent Sri Lanka in cricket.
