Isipatana power their way into quarter-finals

RUGBY: Isipatana College moved closer towards winning their second major title this season when they powered their way into the quarter-finals of the Cup Championship on the opening day of the Singer inter school under 20 seven a side rugby tournament which began at St. Peter's College grounds in Bambalapitiya yesterday.

The defending champions and the top seeds playing in group 'A' brushed aside their opponents quite easily where they overcame St. Aloysius College Galle and Bandaranaike MMV Gampaha in the preliminary round.

Isipatana College who won the Western Province under 20 sevens title last week will now take on Vidyartha College Kandy in the first quarter-final scheduled for today.

Meanwhile the year's runners up Kingswood College Kandy too booked a place in the last eight with two impressive victories over Zahira College and Piliyandala Central in group 'H'.

The Kingswoodians will meet Mahanama College in the last quarterfinal of the day.

In the other two quarter-finals Prince of Wales College Moratuwa will take on D. S. Senanayake College and Ananda College will be up against St. Sylvester's College Kandy.

The last year's 'A' division league champions St. Peter's College along with S. Thomas' College Mount Lavinia, Royal College and Trinity College Kandy are not participating in this tournament.
