Shankari creates upset

TENNIS: Unseeded T. Shankari created an upset at the Trans Asia Hotel Open Tennis Championship now in progress at the hotel courts, when she beat seed No. 5 Geema Wijeratne in straight sets (6-1, 6-0) to enter the semi-finals of the Girls' Under-16 Singles event.

Sharmal Dissanayake the top seed/ entered the quarter-finals of the Boys' Under-14 Singles beating Senith Abeynayake also in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) while the top seed in the Boys' Under-10 Singles Joshua Jayaratne too entered the "quarters" of the Boys' Under-10 Singles beating Ashkar (9-1).

The quarter-finalists in the Girls' Under-10 Singles too were found with the four seeds finding themselves into the last eight, while the semi-finalists were discovered in the Men's over-35 Singles too with the four seeds going through.
