Royal triumph at Nittawela

RUGBY Royla ended their lossing streak when they down Vidyartha College by 29 Points (2 Goals, 3 Tries) to Nil win at Nittawela Rugby Stadium yesterday in their Inter School Under 20 League encounter.

The winners led 12-0 at the short breather. Though Royal won by a big margin it was a lack luster affair where both teams played without any purpose and aim. Royal on their part looked an ordinary outfit without their play maker Bilal Hassen who was rested for this game.

Earlier in the season Royal went down to Kingswood and Isipathana. Vidyartha after putting up an excellent show against Trinity last week looked a yard slower than their opponents. When ever they got the ball they knocked it on or without option.

Royal drew first blood in the 7th minute of the game when their huge and experienced Prop forward Nikira Senanayake crashed through the gate for an uncoverted try. Seven minutes later centre Shamil Ahampath sliced through the Vidyartha defence to touch down under the posts. Full back Shynika Chandrasekera added the extra points. Royal went in to half time at 12-0.

In the second half one player each from Royal and Vidyartha were sent to sin bin for high and dangerous tackles.

The winners scored thrice in the second half through Centre Duminda Attygalle, number 8 Hasthika Bandaranayake and second row Kalana Amarasinghe. Full back Shynika Chandrasekera was on target in one of the try conversations. The game was well controlled by referee AC Tenekoon

The Under 16 game ended in a five all draw. Royal will take on Rajans at Reif Avenue next Saturday while the Vidyartha will take on Kingswood to survive in the top division.
