Petes in good 15-7 victory

RUGBY St.Peter’s smarting under their last weeks defeat at the hands of the Thomians got the better of Kingswood defeating the Kandy school by 15 points (1 goal 1 try and a penalty) to 7 ( 1 goal) in a Singer ‘A’ division league school rugger encounter at Bambalapitiya yesterday.

Kingswood had nothing much in the offering in the first half with the Peterite forwards and three quarter line combining effectively to drive the Kingswoodians into submission. But the visitors came back storming in the second half to disallow the Petes to score, and a the same time getting their act together but lacking the necessary finish.

A Harsha Werakkody penalty put the home side in the lead in the 6th minute of the game. Weerakkody failed to put over another penalty ten minutes later.

Full back Gerard Canute gave the needed lead to the Petes when he touched down twice off a three quarter move to score. Weerakkody missed the first conversion but put over the second one. Then minutes before the short whistle Kingswood’s Harsha Weerakkody missed a penalty.

The Peterites led 15\7 at the breather.

Kingswood came back partially into the game through a try from Roshan Weeraratne which was converted by Chaminda Bandara. They also held the Peterites to a scoreless second half, but lacked the sharp penetrative qualities to pose any threat to the Peterites who defended well during the dying stages of the game.

Kingswood won the under 14 game 21-0, while the Peterites defeated their opponents in the under 12 and under 15 matches 22-0 and 17-0 respectively.
