Bank of Ceylon athletic meet July 12

ATHLETICS: The annual athletic meet organised by the Bank of Ceylon will be held on July 12, 2008 at the Sugathadasa Stadium. It is open to the staff of the Bank of Ceylon. Entries will close on May 20, with H.A. Upali, Secretary/Athletics, Bank of Ceylon, Headquarters, 15th floor, Colombo 1.


Ratnayake MV wins four out of six finals

ATHLETICS: Athletes from A. Ratnayake MV, Walala performed the best winning four of the six final relay events on the opening day of the three-day Relay carnival organised by the Sri Lanka Athletic Association in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Schools athletic Association at the Sugathadasa stadium yesterday.

They won the 4 x 800 metres Girls under-16 relay with a time of 10:27:08 secs, 4 x 800 metres Girls under-18 - 10:07:75 secs, 4 x 800 metres Girls under-20 - 10:05:87 secs and the 4 x 800 metres Boys under-20 relay 7:57:19 secs.

Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa won the fifth relay 4 x 800 metres Boys under-16 'clocking' 9:03:62 secs. The sixth win was from Vidyartha College, Kandy in the relay Boys under-19 - 8:3:99 secs.

The meet will be continued today from 8.30 a.m. (L.F.)


Moveten C.C. donate cricket materials and tennis balls

DONATION: Moveton Cricket Club juniors from Queensland, Australia who were in Sri Lanka for the sixth occasion and played two matches against Trinity College, also donated cricket equipment to Sri Rahula College first eleven cricketers.

Athula Unantenna - the former Trinity and Sri Lanka Schools cricketer who co-ordinated the tour donated cricket gear to Sri Rahula College and they were received by master-in-charge Sarath Seneviratne and coach Aubrey Kuruppu.

Then Moveten C.C. through Chris Heath of Queensland donated tennis balls to Kandy District Sports Foundation and they were received by Deva Amunugama - the Vice-President of the Foundation.
