CEB payments via Sampath portal
Eight-hundred thousand Master and Visa card holders in the country
will be able to pay the electricity bills at their convenience using the
sampath payeasy.lk portal from June.
Senior Manager Card Centre Sampath Bank, Nirosha De Silva said that
until recently the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) did not accept credit
card payments.
Therefore, though customers could settle many of the utility bill
payments using the credit card they could not pay the electricity bills.
With the introduction of this facility any master or visa cardholder
will be able to pay the electricity bills using the credit card but
since it is a non face to face transaction there will be a small
surcharge on the card holder.
Sampath Bank will accept standing orders as well for electricity bill
payments and the standing order forms will be available at Sampath Bank
as well as the CEB.
She said that if the issuing bank of the debit card has enabled non
face to face transactions we will accept debit cards too. Ms De Silva
said that all precautions have been taken to avoid frauds when paying
through the credit card adding that at present about 1,000 utility bill
payments per month are done using the credit card.
