Deaf Schools sports activities June 21 and July 5

DEAF SCHOOLS SPORTS: The Deaf Schools six-a-side softball cricket and netball tournaments will be held on June 21 (Saturday) at Shalika grounds, Narahenpita starting at 8.30 a.m. The Deaf Schools Volleyball (boys and girls) will be on July 5 at 8.30 a.m. at the School for the Deaf grounds at Ratmalana.

The above tournaments are organised by Deaf Schools Past Pupils Association and the School for the Deaf, Ratmalana. The finals of all tournaments and the award ceremonies will be on the same days in the evening.

The tournaments are sponsored by Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC for the seventh successive year.

Defending champions - The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana are fancied to win the Caltex trophies in cricket and netball and volleyball (boys). Last year's champions Siviraja Deaf and Blind School, Mahawewa are fancied to win the girls volleyball title again this year.

The other teams that are likely offer them resistance are: Islamic Centre for the Physically Handicapped, Thihariya, Rohana School for the Deaf, Matara, St. Joseph's School for the Deaf, Ragama, Yasodara Deaf and Blind School, Balangoda, Sri Sudarshi Deaf and Blind School, Bandarawela and Sayan Deaf School, Matale.

In cricket, Caltex Trophies, replicas and certificates will be awarded. The above tournaments are open to all deaf schools in Sri Lanka free of charge. Entry forms can be had from: Mr. K.F.T. Sumanadasa, Hony. Secretary, Deaf Schools Past Pupils' Association, The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana or Mrs. Marie Wijeyaratne - the Principal on telephone: 2636351 during school hours. Entries close on May 31st.
