All-Island Inter-School Waterpolo May 31

WATERPOLO: Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Sports Association has made arrangements to hold 18th All-Island Inter-School Waterpolo Tournament on May 31 at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Pool.

Mrs. Chintha Ruwanpathirana, Secretary SLSASA said that more schools are expected to participate in this tournament which will be a trial to pick players both boys and girls for the Schools Waterpolo training pool in preparation for the Asian Schools Waterpolo Championships to be held in October in Thailand.

The inter-school tournament will be for both under-20 and under-15 (seniors and juniors) boys and girls. The entries close on May 26 with Secretary, SLSASA, Mahamaya College, Kandy.

Two teams per school in each age group will be allowed. The names of the players and reserves, total of 13 players with their dates of birth certified by the Principal should be submitted. All participants should play in the age groups entered in the entry form.

The draw will be held on the day of the tournament at 7.45 a.m. and the matches will commence from 8.00 a.m. All matches will be played on a knock-out basis. Mrs. Ruwanpathirana added that all teams are expected to bring their own sets of caps (blue and white) and the waterpolo balls.

It is compulsory that all participating teams be accompanied by the master/teacher-in-charge throughout the day. The champions and runners-up will be presented challenge trophies, certificates and medals.

At the 2007 tournament, Royal College emerged champions in the Senior Sector while S. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia became junior champions.

In the girls tournament, Ladies College won the senior title while Visakha Vidyalaya were runners-up. The junior title went to Visakha Vidyalaya and runners-up Bishop’s College.
