More colours to SLT’s rainbow pages
Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) last week added more colours to its rainbow
pages in its new directory strengthening it as a separate business line.
SLT Publications (Pvt) Ltd, a fully owned subsidiary of SLT is now
handling the directory business as a separate venture and sees it as a
growing business area.
SLT Chairperson Mrs. Leisha De Silva Chandrasena said that since the
telecom business around the globe has become competitive all telecom
operators are at new business models, innovative services and technology
to differentiate themselves from the competition.
“All operators have started refocusing on their core businesses. The
related support services, supply chain and complimentary businesses were
separated to gain operational advantages and productivity gains” she
said explaining the rationale behind forming the new subsidiary for the
directory business.
Directory services is one of our non core businesses and the
department popular as rainbow pages will operate under SLT publications,
she said.
General Manager of SLT Publications L.P.M.Balapitiya said that the
new entity will focus on a broader market segment going beyond SLT
telephone users and cover all telephone users in the country which is
around ten million.
Publishing the annual directory is a mandatory requirement under the
Telecommunications Regulatory Act.
Therefore, the directory reaches all nooks and corners of the country
and has become the country’s most popular classified business directory
with 20,000 classified business listing and advertisements spread over
100 product service classifications.
The new directory has crossed all boundaries, Balapitiya said.
