30th Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2008

Mega Awards show on Friday:

AWARDS: The panel of selectors of the 30th OBSERVER-MOBITEL Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year Contest met at Cinamon Grand Hotel and evaluated the performances of the inter-school cricket matches of the 2007/2008 season.

The awards presentation will be on July 18 at the BMICH and to make the show something to remember, there will be top-drawer entertainment with Bathiya and Santhush leading the way.

The panel comprising members from Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers, Sri Lanka, Central Province Cricket Umpires Association, Southern Province Cricket Umpires Association and Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association, short-listed players under each category before they identified the final award winners to be announced at the Mega Show.


The Sunday Observer donated a brand new computer, facsimile mechine and a printer to the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association last week. The selection panel was headed by the former Sri Lanka Test captain Hashan Tillekeratne who was recently appointed as the new President of the Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers Sri Lanka.

The names of short-listed schoolboy cricketers and teams running for 32 different awards have been picked but the winners will be declared at the Mega Awards ceremony.

The Mega Show is hosted by the Sunday Observer in association with Mobitel. The sponsors Mobitel has played a vital role to have a show of this magnitude.

The schoolboy cricketers and their fans will definitely have a enjoyable time on July 18.

The first recipient of the prestigious Observer Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year award-Ranjan Madugalle, who is the present ICC Chief Match Referee will be the fitting chief guest as the contest marks its 30th anniversary.
