Traffic scheme for SAARC Summit
The Fort Railway Station will not be closed from August 1-4 for the
SAARC Summit as announced earlier.
Police media spokesman SSP Ranjith D. A. Gunasekera said that all
trains from Kandy will be permitted to run up to the Fort railway
station on these days. The trains from Galle will be stopped at the
Bambalapitiya railway station.
The Kollupitiya and Slave Island railway stations will be closed from
August 1-4 due to security reasons, he said.
According to the SSP the Fort area will be a high security zone and
from July 25 vehicles and people will be checked before they enter the
Fort high security zone. Special vehicle passes will be issued for
vehicles from July 30 to August 4 by Senior DIG III. to enter the Fort
High Security Zone.
A special bus service will operate from Fort to Bambalapitiya from
August 1-4 since there will be no rail services from Fort to
Bambalapitiya on these days.
The following roads will also be closed during this period - Laden
Bastian Road, Baron Jayatileka Road through Bristol Street Junction,
Lower Chatham Street through Bristol Street Junction Ceramic Junction,
York Street, Lotus Road from Ceramic Junction, Justice Akbar Road,
Glennie Street Junction Railway crossing and Kollupitiya Junction.
The following are the alternative roads during this period.
Galle Road to Pettah
Galle Road, Kollupitiya Junction, Dharmapala Mawatha, Liberty
Roundabout, Pittela Junction, James Peiris Mawatha, Slave Island
Junction, Justice Akbar Mawatha, Malay Street, Srimath Chittampalam
Gardiner Mawatha, Ceramic Junction, Lotus Road, CTO Junction, Olcott
Mawatha.
Pettah to Galle Road Olcott Mawatha, CTO Junction, Lotus Road,
Ceramic Junction, Srimath Chittampalam Gardiner Mawatha, Malay Street,
Justice Akbar Mawatha, Slave Island Junction, James Peiris Mawatha,
Pittela Junction, Dharmapala Mawatha, Redcross Roundabout, Marcus
Fernando Mawatha, Ananda Kumaraswamy Mawatha, Liberty Roundabout,
Duplication Road, Galle Road.
The BMICH will be a high security zone from July 30 to August 4.
Vehicles will not be allowed in the area and special vehicle passes will
be issued by SSP Colombo South for the essential requirements.
The following roads will be closed during the period - Kanatte
Roundabout, Gregorys Road, Gregory Avenue, Bullers-Wijerama Junction,
Public Administration Roundabout, Bullers Road, Bullers Lane Junction,
Malalasekera Road, Saram Road Junction Nidahas Mawatha, Bullers Lane
Junction.
Alternative Roads from Borella to Bambalapitiya, Kanatte Roundabout,
Kynsey Road, Gregorys Road, Maitland Chandrawankaya, Maitland Place,
Public Administration Roundabout, Nidahas Mawatha, Reid Avenue to
Bambalapitiya.
The Parliament Complex will also be a high security zone from July 30
to August 4 and vehicles will not be permitted to enter this area.
Special vehicle passes for residents will be issued by SSP Nugegoda.
The following roads will be closed during this period.
Talduwa Junction to Palawatta Junction Keangnam Roundabout to
Palamtuna Roundabout, Keangnam Roundabout to Kibulagala Roundabout,
Nippon Mawatha to Baddegana Road and to the Football grounds and
Baddegana Junction to Duwa Road.
Alternative roads
Vehicles leaving Colombo via the Parliament area should proceed from
Polduwa to Battaramulla.
