Explosives found : Security tightened in Colombo

Security in Colombo and in the suburbs has been tightened following
the discovery of explosives in Chillaw.
Explosives buried in the seashore, 12 kilometres north of Chillaw
were discovered by a team of police officers led by Chief Inspector
Jayalath Sunil of the Community Police Division yesterday around 7 a.m.,
the Police Media Spokesman, SSP Ranjit Gunasekera told the Sunday
Observer. .
He said the high explosives weighing 200 grams have been packed into
two false soles of shoes. Along with the shoes a tin containing
explosives and two camouflaged uniforms belonging to LTTE cadres, two
walkie - talkies, a box of ammunition were found in the same location.
Meanwhile, the following traffic arrangements have been made today in
view of the second day of the SAARC summit. Traffic will not be allowed
along the old Parliament Road up to the Kollupitiya junction, up to the
BMICH and to the Parliamentary complex in Kotte from 9.am. to 10.30.am.
and from 1 pm. to 2 pm.
Motorists have been advised to take alternate routes from Fort via
Maradana to Baseline Road, Dematagoda, Wellampitiya, Kaduwela, and along
old road Avissawella.
Vehicles proceeding to Galle will proceed along Malabe, Pannipitiya,
Kottawa, Katubedde. In the afternoon roads leading from the old
Parliament to Kollupitiya and up to the BMICH will be closed from 2.00
pm. to 3.30 pm. The same roads will be close again from 4.15 pm. to 5.30
pm.
Traffic proceeding along Kandy and Ratnapura roads will not be
interrupted.
