Nawaloka Hospitals Rs. 1.5 billion expansion project nears completion

Nawaloka Hospitals 80,000 square foot new wing will accommodate 100 more beds and a host of other facilities.

The Hospital's ongoing expansion, at a cost of Rs. 1.5 billion when completed will house amongst other facilities, a well equipped emergency treatment unit, an OPD laboratory, pharmacy, consultation rooms, cafe, ATMs, a maternity department complete with surgical theatre, delivery room as well as private delivery rooms and an Out Bound Unit for patients with post pregnancy defects, a neo natal unit, a MICU [Medical Intensive Care Unit] with the latest facilities, a Sleep Lab [snoring monitoring facility], dialysis unit, isolation room, seven ultra modern surgical theatres [the Hospital will then have 12 theatres], a modern fertility centre, Nephrology unit, and a series of villas and suites to cater to the more fastidious patients.

The villas and suites have been designed by a panel of internationally recognised architects and consultants who specialise in medical requirements and each villa and suite will have a waterfront view, as well as an aerial view of the Colombo city.

Nawaloka Hospitals will score yet another first when they become the first hospital [the new extension] in Sri Lanka to be equipped with glass panel elevators.

Deputy Chairman of Nawaloka Hospitals Jayantha Dharmadasa said, "To be the hospital of tomorrow whilst maintaining leadership and excellence in the healthcare industry is our vision, with a mission to provide the best healthcare to the needy in a cost effective, timely and professional manner".

Director/General Manager Nawaloka Hospitals, Professor Lal Chandrasena said, "In recent times Nawaloka Hospitals were the first to introduce the Philips FD 10-Angiography system with state of the art technology.

In addition they were also the first to introduce a Comprehensive Polysomnography System, as well as the first to introduce a state of the art pulmonary testing facility".
