Six Lankans arrested in India

The 'Q' Branch police in Ramanathapuram, India arrested seven persons, including six Sri Lankans, for attempting to smuggle acetic acid to Sri Lanka. Acting on a tip-off, a police team surrounded them at Nochioorani near Nagachi.

They were identified as Kirubakaran (28), Jegan alias Dheepan (26), Prem Kumar (27) of Kilinochchi (now residing in Mandapam camp), Dushyanthan (32), Sivarupan (28) of Vavuniya, Sasikumar (22) of Mannar and Muniasamy (36) of Nagachi.

Interrogation revealed that Rooban, a Sri Lankan living in France, had sent money to Kirubakaran a few months ago to purchase various materials. The consignment was supposed to be delivered at Iranathivu, an LTTE-controlled area. The police also seized two outboard engines from them.
