Six Lankans arrested in India
The 'Q' Branch police in Ramanathapuram, India arrested seven
persons, including six Sri Lankans, for attempting to smuggle acetic
acid to Sri Lanka. Acting on a tip-off, a police team surrounded them at
Nochioorani near Nagachi.
They were identified as Kirubakaran (28), Jegan alias Dheepan (26),
Prem Kumar (27) of Kilinochchi (now residing in Mandapam camp),
Dushyanthan (32), Sivarupan (28) of Vavuniya, Sasikumar (22) of Mannar
and Muniasamy (36) of Nagachi.
Interrogation revealed that Rooban, a Sri Lankan living in France,
had sent money to Kirubakaran a few months ago to purchase various
materials. The consignment was supposed to be delivered at Iranathivu,
an LTTE-controlled area. The police also seized two outboard engines
from them.
