Students bring pride to country

Students of the University of Colombo won a bronze medal and two
honourable mentions from the International Physics Olympiad 2008 held in
Hanoi, Vietnam. Meeting stiff competition from participants from China
and India, Kirthevasan Kandasamy and Nayana Rajapakse proved their worth
in the examination.

Edirisinghe said that there were obstacles in obtaining funds to take
part in the examination. We received money from the President's Fund to
travel to Vietnam. Prof. D. U. J. Sonnadara, the Joint Secretary of the
Department of Physics said "We are hoping to take part in the Junior
Science Olympiad this year.
Ordinary Level students from across the country will sit for the
physics exam on August 17. "Sri Lanka has the potential to produce great
physicists and scientists. The public and private sectors should support
students. |
