Accelerated issue of NICs commenced

An accelerated programme has been introduced to issue National Identity Cards before the end of the year, Registration Department, Deputy Commissioner, Mrs. P. P. K. Abegunawardane said.

The program is being implemented for the coming year which has been scheduled an election year.

Since the last elections held in Sabaragamuwa and the North Central Provincial Councils the necessity of identity cards for voters have proved to be essential to obtain their ballot paper and it will be made compulsory at future elections.

Therefore the department has organised one-day service and a normal service for issue of urgent National Identity Cards.

The department has also organised district mobile offices at Divisional Secretariat level as a service to help those who live in remote areas.
