STF 'Graduation' today, 528 personnel pass out
The 56th Intake of the Sri Lanka Police Special Task Force will pass
out today at the STF Training School in Katukurunda, Kalutara. \
After a comprehensive six months training 78 Sub Inspectors and 450
Police Constables will 'graduate' at this grand event.
Senior Deputy Inspector General, Mahinda Balasooriya (STF /
Administration) will be the chief guest along with Deputy Inspector
General (Operations) R. W. M. C. Ranawana and several other senior
officers as distinguished guests. Family members of the STF officers
will attend the event as well.
The new STF officers will be deployed in the recently liberated areas
in the North and the East to provide security as well as to assist the
Police in civil administration.
The elite force was set up in 1983 mainly to assist the Sri Lanka
Army to settle disturbing situations that was then prevailing in the
country.
On 01st September, 2008 due to an LTTE mine explosion 4 STF officers
died for the first time in the history of the STF. The VIP security unit
and the bomb disposal squad, the most significant divisions of the STF,
were established in 1987 and specialized training courses are conducted
at the STF Training School in Katukurunda, Kalutara. (DY)
