UNP pats military on the back

UNP General Secretary, Tissa Attanayaka when contacted by the Sunday Observer to make his comments on yesterday’s victory of Pooneryn said that as a true democratic party, the UNP commended this victory and said the entire credit should go to the brave soldiers who always make a great sacrifice to protect the country’s territorial integrity. He also reminded the political leaders and all others concerned that victory cannot be achieved by defeating enemies with arms alone.

“All should know that the ultimate goal of any victory is to have a political solution and therefore, we as a main opposition would like to urge the Government to go for a political solution as early as possible. Meanwhile, Public Service Trade Union Leader, W.H. Piyadasa highly commended the Pooneryn victory and said that this victory which was brought about by our brave soldiers would bridge the 20 -year old gap between the North and South. He said this victory will also reflect the unity of our soldiers as they have ultimately destroyed the northern terrorism of Prabhakaran.
