Deepika Rodrigo of Lake House wins triple crown
TABLE TENNIS: National player Deepika Rodrigo of Lake House performed
the best winning a Triple Crown at the nationalised services open Table
Tennis championships played at S. Thomas' College indoor stadium, Mount
Lavinia.
Deepika, playing in terific form, first bagged the women's single
title defeating Ira Ruwanpathirana of People's Bank in straight sets
3-0. Then partnering Champa de Silva also of Lake House, won the women's
Doubles, beating S. Chandrathilake and P. Wijayananda of Bank of Ceylon
3-1. Deepika completed the hattrick of wins, winning the Mixed Doubles,
combining with Chaminda Wijegunawardena of Lake House. The pair defeated
Gayani Kulathunge and Prabath Indrajith of National Savings Bank 3-1.
Prabath Indrajith of National Savings Bank also excelled to win a
double at the championships.
Prabath won the men's singles title, defeating Rasika Wijethilaka of
Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation. He got the double winning the Men's
Doubles partnering Waruna Gunawardena. The pair beat R. A. Wimalasena
and Chaminda Wijegunawardena of Lake House.
Thilanka Seneviratne of People's Bank and Gayathri de Silva of CECB
emerged men's and women's singles champions respectively.
Thilanka beat Dhammika Abeysekera of National Savings Bank while
Gayathri beat Prasangika Nuwani of CECB.
At this championships, honours were shared with Lake House and
National Savings Bank winning four titles each. L.F. |
