Appeal to keep Sri Pada clean

We appeal to the general public to keep Sri Pada green and clean because many who frequent the area during the season do not care about the environment", Director of the 'Thirasara Parisara' Division of the Ministry of Environment, A.A. Kulatunga appealed.

The annual Sri Pada season commenced from Unduwap Poya Day and the Director said that there is no use of steering environment campaigns at Sri Pada because people have to make the change from within themselves.

"It is sad to note that many don't come for pilgrimage but to have trips where they want to enjoy themselves" he said. As a result of littering, animals at the Peak Sanctuary adjoining Sri Pada, feed on the garbage and this has been the reason for the decrease in the number of animals in the area. "In fact, vets have to be brought in because many animals get sick after consuming this garbage" he said.
