Launch of Hisham Abdeen Rugby Football Academy a red letter day
By Srian OBEYESEKERE
It will be a red letter day in the rugby football career of veteran
Hisham Abdeen who will take his star studded career as player and coach
into another lane when he launches the country's first ever finishing
schhol in rugby - the Hisham Abdeen Rugby Football Academy (HARFA) on
Wednesday December 17.
Unparalleled as a player, who won the admiration of his international
foes in his hey day as a brilliant wing three quarter, Hisham summed up
his latest effort in the following words,"I'm giving back to my country
what I learnt from the game through such an academy which will
importantly finecomb talent with accent on the rural youth. HARFA will
be a fully fledged finishing school of rugby that will tap latent talent
from as tender age as 9 in so much as fine tuning youngsters and even
lasses to potential national players
For this I have a handpicked team of trainers, both men and women to
serve HARFA which would also be equipped with speed trainers and fitness
men. The Power World will join me in pruning out six footers."The
occasion which will be graced by the rugby family in the country both
past and present will be the stepping stone to bigger things in the
rugby arena where experts see Hisham's long-term move as very
far-reaching in Sri Lanka's endeavour at bridging the gap at South Asian
level. |
