BEST SPORTSMAN: Heshan Unamboowe of Trinity College, Kandy was rated
as the Best Sportsman of the Hill Capital in the year 2008. He was
awarded the prestigious `Lion' at Trinity College last year for the
skills he showed in swimming.
Heshan who is 16 years - Old has toured India, Pakistan, Singapore,
Malaysia, Indonesia, England and Australia to participate in swimming
competitions and training programmes.
Unamboowe's latest victory was at the Nationals where he won 100
metres with a Sri Lanka record he won timing of 54.66 to beat the
previous record of Daniel Lee 54.72.11.
Hansanie Weeratunge of Mahamaya College, Kandy was also a swimmer who
has toured Malaysia, Pakistan and India in the year 2007 and won many
events, and specially in Pakistan she won 5 events.
In addition, in the year 2005, she won 50, 200 and 800 metres at the
Nationals and she was adjudged the Best Swimmer among girls. In the year
2006, she was placed 1st in 200 and 400 metres swimming races at he
Schools Nationals. In the same year in swimming at the SAF Games held in
Colombo. She was adjudged the Best Sportswoman of Mahamaya in the year
2008.
At the National Games this year held at Beliatta she won 100 and 200
metres freestyle swimming events. |
