New FTZ in East
A Free Trade Zone will be set up in the Eastern Province by the
Export Development Ministry next year, after establishing its first ever
regional Export Development Board (EDB) office in the Ampara district.
Government has allocated a record sum of Rs. 500 million to the
Export Development Ministry to carry out already identified development
programs in Ampara, Trincomalee and Batticaloa districts.
Speaking to the Sunday Observer, Export Development Minister Segu
Issadeen said the objective of this program is to generate more
employment by expanding the industrial and agricultural sectors in the
Eastern Districts.
