Arpico Rigifoam relocates

The pioneers of expandable Polystyrene Technology in Sri Lanka - Richard Pieris and Company Ltd. which introduced the product in the early sixties relocated to a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Horana under a new name - RPC Polymers Ltd. to meet the fast-expanding needs of the market.

Managing Director Sunil Liyanage said, "Our product blended with and filled a need in the society so much that over the years" 'Rigifoam' became almost a generic term for expandable polystyrene." When the product was initially introduced, in a small factory in Nawinna and subsequently moved into Mattegoda, the company manufactured insulated boxes, containers and sheets for the insulation of cold rooms.

The demand for 'Rigifoam' grew rapidly as more and more industries turned to the product for packaging and insulation and Richard Pieris and Company moved ahead investing in new technology and new equipment to keep pace with emerging needs for many different types of containers and insulation requirements and packaging requirements, primarily for the Electronics Industry.
