Children of estate workers enter University

Six students, all children of estate workers at Talawakelle Estate, qualified to enter the University. The estate is managed by Maskeliya Plantations PLC, which is part of the Richard Pieris Group of Companies. The plantation company manages 19 estates holding a land base of 10,560 hectares.

The main crop cultivated is high grown tea and the employee strength is around 17,000.

The success of these students speak volumes for the changing lifestyles of the estate community, where with adequate encouragement, enhanced educational facilities and motivation, the new generation is able to reap the benefits of development and opportunities provided to them.

In the presence of the Managing Director, Ravi Kumararatne and other senior corporate managers of Maskeliya Plantations the students were presented with a scholarship to assist and encourage them.
