Highest agri growth in 60 years

The highest growth rate in the agriculture sector of 13 percent was recorded in 2008 after 60 years, Minister of Agriculture Development and Agrarian Services Maithripala Sirisena said.

The Government agriculture programmes Api Vavamu, Rata Nagamu and Gamin Gamata, Geyin Geta had helped to achieve the marked success. Home garden project under the main agricultural programme had also achieved high results. As an incentive for the employees of the ministry and departments who had contributed to making the programme a success were given free seed material and fertilizer the minister said. L.S.A.
