Api Venuven Api in Europe
Api Venuven Api, the program to provide houses to the members of the
Armed forces was being taken up by the Ministry of Defence and the Sri
Lanka Embassy in Rome to gain support of expatriate Sri Lankans in
Europe, Consul of the embassy Chandrapala Liyanage said.
Api Venuven Apiprogram will be introduced to expatriate Sri Lankans
in London and other European capitals with a number of cultural programs
staged by the music and dance troupes of the Forces with emphsis on the
disabled service personnel. Sales of stickers and mementos to raise
funds are also among the strategies used, Liyanage said.
Alongside the program to be held in Europe during March, April and
May, will be finding sponsors for children of war disabled service
personnel and the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Sri Lanka Army will
coordinate the activities, he stated. A month long program will be held
under the aegis of the Sri Lanka Embassy in Rome with the Central Bank
of Sri Lanka and all the State and private sector banks helping to
collect funds or remit such funds.
The series of events will be held during the month in Rome, Milano,
Nepoli, Greece and Cyprus. There are around 1.5 million Sri Lankan
expatriates in Europe who were expected to contribute to this cause,
Liyanage added.
