Development programs to be launched in North

In the wake of triumphant military onslaughts of the government
forces in the Northern war front, resulting in the liberation of over
ninety per cent of the Vanni region, the government has initiated
several measures to restore normal life and civil administration, that
hitherto remained partially disrupted for two decades.
An office of the Governor of the Northern Province Sarath Chandra
Dela has been set up in Vavuniya to launch development programs under
directions from the Presidential Secretariat.
This office will focuses on restoration of normal life of the Tamil
people of the North with the promotion of social, cultural and religious
activities, development programs and resettlement of refugees from
Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts, sources said.
A cultural centre constructed at a cost of Rs. 500 million at the
Vavuniya Urban Council will be opened by Minister of Disaster Relief and
Resettlement Rishard Buthiyutheen on February 07.
The ceremony will be attended by Governor Sarath Chandra Dela,
parliamentarians representing the people of Vanni and senior government
officials.
