Truce eye-opener for INGOs

The 48-hour time period declared by the President Mahinda Rajapaksa to the LTTE to release the civilians, is an eye-opener for the INGOs and the international community to urge the Tigers to release the civilians, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said. He said that the UN, ICRC and the international community should exert pressure on the LTTE, reiterating that there will be no ceasefire with the LTTE, and that the military would destroy the LTTE shortly.

He told the Sunday Observer that the period which ended mid-night yesterday will not be extended.

“We will continue with the military offensive until we liberate the remaining tiny area under LTTE control”, he said.
