Stranger at Editor's residence

An Editor of a national newspaper had a strange visitor Friday morning.

Since the visitor was not known to him he had informed the Director, Department of Government Information about it. Informed of the incident by the Director Information, President Mahinda Rajapaksa has immediately instructed the Inspector General of Police to take necessary action. The police then arrested the stranger and he had no answer to explain why he visited the Editor's residence. The arrested person, said to be a former employee of the Maharaja Organisation, was later released.

Last week President Mahinda Rajapaksa instructed the Inspector General of Police to provide security cover to residences and movements of Editors.

It was a sequel to a meeting the President had with the Editors where the latter expressed concerns about their security, following the assassination of Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickrematunga and the attack on Rivira Editor Upali Tennekoon.
