Parties show positive response to APRC
by P.Krishnaswamy
The All Party Representative Committee (APRC) that held 103 meetings
since its inception in 2006 has reached a consensus on most of the
issues that were taken up for deliberation on a "home grown" political
package as a solution to the national problem and decisions on the
remaining major issues will be taken at sittings in the next few weeks,
said Prof.Tissa Vitharana, Chairman of the Committee and Minister of
Science and Technology.
The main Opposition UNP that walked out in 2007 after attending a
number of meetings as also the JVP that quit after attending 21 meetings
will now be invited to take part in the process of evolving a political
package, Vitharana said. The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) which never
attended the APRC sittings will also be invited, sequel to the current
'changed situation ' in the war front. The party was invited on earlier
occasions but refused to attend, he said.
