Feng Shui and Chinese new year
by Surekha Galagoda
Feng Shui and Chinese new year go hand in hand. These days the
Chinese people are getting ready to celebrate the new year on February
4. By observing these below mentioned practices you will be able to
chase the evil spirits. According to the Chinese calendar year 2009
belongs to the Ox.
On February 3rd get a statue of the wealth god, money (inside a red
cover), fruits, sweetmeats, jossticks, flowers and a lamp, oil a wick as
well as a red cloth. Most importantly find a short table to keep all
these things.
On February 4th don’t light the hearth. Close the door at 6.45 a.m.
and the whole family walk out. Lay the table cloth and arrange
everything on the table. The table should face the door in the east or
south. (These are the two best directions).
Arrange all the things mentioned above on the table. Worship the god
of your religion, chant pirith or hymns or the sthothra according to
your religion. Then get the chief of the house to carry the wealth god
and the money in the red cover open the door and first put the hands
with the god and the money and then walk into the house. Then all family
members get together cook and enjoy the first meal ushering the Chinese
New Year. (Courtesy Thilangani Herath.) |
