Ratnams and Hameed Al Husseinia power their way into the finals

SOCCER: Ratnam Sports Club and Hameed Al Husseinia MV powered their
way to the final of the Old Benedictine Sports Club Invitation Soccer
Tournament with wins over Don Bosco SC and Zahira College in the first
two semi-final matches played at St. Benedict's College grounds
yesterday.
So the stage is set for the second semi-final today, Sunday, February
1 St Benedict's College vs Isipatana College at 2 p.m. and Blue Star SC
vs New Youngs SC, Wennappuwa at 4.00 p.m.
The winners of today's two matches will meet Hameedia Al Husseinia MV
and Ratnam SC in the schools and club finals to be played on Saturday,
February 7 commencing from 2.00 p.m.
The champions in both section will receive the Old Bens SC Golden
Jubilee Trophies. The schools champions will be presented Rs. 50,000,
runner-up - Rs. 25,000. Meanwhile the club winners will be presented
rupees one lakh and runner-up rupees fifty thousand. Certificates,
replicas and medals too will be awarded to champions and runners-up.
Hameed Al Husseinia win on penalties
Hameed Al Hussenia reached the final of the schools tournament
defeating Zahira College on a penalty shoot out 5-4 after the regulation
time of semi-final ended in a goalless draw.
It was a case of missed chances in this game. Both sides dished out
top class soccer. Despite lack of goals during normal play the match was
packed with full of action with both teams playing fast free flowing

Former past soccerites Ivon Fernando and G.A. Quintus Fernando were
the chief guest and guest of honour for the first match.
Ratnam in final
Ratnam SC moved to the final registering a comfortable 4 goals to 1
win over Don Bosco SC in the Club 1st semi-final.
Ratnam SC dominated the game for a major part of the match and probed
Don Bosco SC defence with some excellent passings and judicious break
ways. Ratnam led 2-0 at half time.
For Ratnam SC Kasun Jayasuriya (2) E.B. Channa (2) scored while N.
Jayawardena scored for losers.

Tilak Peiris and John Dias former Old Bens stars were chief guest and
guest of honour at the second match.
