Navam Perahera today

The annual Navam Maha Perahera of Gangarama Vihara, Colombo will take place today and tomorrow, February 8 and 9 parading the Beira Lake environs.

Ven. Jinarathna Thera of Gangarama Viharaya told the Sunday Observer that 55 elephants along with 1,600 dancers and drummers will take part at procession, 500 Buddhist Priests will also take part led by the Chief Incumbent of the Temple,

The Perahera is taking place for the 30th year without any interruption, and security arrangements have been worked out with 1,800 police and security service personnel who will be on duty. Special seating arrangements have been made for foreign tourists.The Perahera will begin at 7 p.m.
