Angelo (6/93) excels in drawn game

Royal-Peterite match ends in a stalemate:

Captain Angelo Perera’s impressive figures of 6 for 93 for St. Peter’s in Royal’s second-innings total of 261 all out was the main highlight on day two as their annual inter-school cricket encounter petered into a high-scoring draw at Bambalapitiya last evening.

St. Peter’s earlier resuming from an overnight 135 for 4, did well through solid contributions from the middle-order to pile-up a challenging first-innings total of 319 all out.

For Royal Maneesha Thanthirigoda bowled best to claim 4 for 138. Trailing by 44 runs on the first-innings Royal in their second-essay were bowled out for 261 with top-order bat Bhanuka Rajapakse top scoring with 66. He was well supported by Haroon Mowjood who made 62.

Royal: 275 and 261 all out (K. Vithanage 40, Kusal Perera 26, Bhanuka Rajapakse 66, Haroon Mowjood 62, L. de Silva 25, Angelo Perera 6 for 93, V. Perera 2 for 31).

St. Peter’s: (135 for 4 contd.) 319 all out (K. Rodrigo 35, N. Perera 39, A. Emmanuel 23, Chatura Peiris 37, Akshu Fernando 30, V. Perera 25, Maneesha Thanthirigoda 4-138) and 9 for no loss at close.

Isipathana win

CRICKET: Isipathana College pulled off a five wicket victory over St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa yesterday at Havelock Park.

Continuing from their overnight score of 144 for 6 wickets Isipathana made 176 with S. Ranasinghe top scoring with 52.

St. Sebastians were bowled out for 121 in their second innings with A. Samarathunga claiming 4 for 42 and S. Premaratne 3 for 10.

But things were not that easy for the Isipathana batsmen as they lost 5 wickets in reaching their victory target of 66.

Chief scores:

St. Sebastian’s: 118 and 121 all out (D. Dias 29, T. Rodrigo 29, A. Samaratunge 4 for 42, S. Premaratne 3 for 10). Isipathana: 176 and 66 for 5 (T. Ranasinghe 21 n.o., D. Warapitiya 15, N. Prasanka 15, A. Aponsu 3 for 22).

Sokians fight back to force a draw

Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda after been bundled out for 115 runs in their first innings came back magnificently to force a creditable draw to their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match against S. Thomas’ College concluded at Mount Lavinia yesterday.

Dharmasoka: 115 and 195 for 5 (K. Niranjana 45, A. Kavinda 86, I. Rangana 26 n.o., F. Saleem 2 for 38, C. Kumarasinghe 2 for 56).

S. Thomas’: 252 (F. Saleem 47, A. Fernando 34, C. Pathirana 77, I. Udayanga 7 for 87).

Joes hit back

St. Joseph’s College after been dismissed for 165 came back strongly to reduce Mahinda College Galle to 111 for 6 in their first innings on the opening day of their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match which began at Darley Road yesterday.

St. Joseph’s: 165 (J. Jayasinghe 56, D. Dhambarage 34 n.o., K. Gajasinghe 3 for 47, M. Gihan 2 for 21, C. de Silva 2 for 22).

Mahinda: 111 for 6 (U. Buddhika 32 n.o, D. Rajakaruna 28, S. Weerasinghe 3 for 36, D. Dhambarage 2 for 37).
