Bamunuarachchi Foundation gift hospital to nation
The government has invested Rs. 84bln to improve the health sector of
the country said President Mahinda Rajapaksa opening the phase one of
the Homagama Base Hospital a gift from B. A. Mahipala and family and
laying the foundation stone for the phase two of the hospital.
President said that the second highest priority has been paid to
health care after defence as a healthy nation and this will help
increase productivity. President Rajapaksa said that he was happy that
he is able to open this hospital just after winning the elections of
North western and Central Provinces which clearly shows that people are
for a united Sri Lanka.
President said that the hospital is a gift from a son to a father to
show gratitude and incidentally the first hospital was built by
Mahipala’s late father Semanaries Appuhamy in 1946.
President said that they are planning to improve many rural hospitals
this year and support from the private sector is a big boon.
President has invited the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon to come
and see the ground situation of the IDPs, “but I will never allow my
people to be objects of display” assured the President. Chairman BAM
Group B.A.Mahipala said that it was the most happiest and memorable day
in his life. He earnestly requested the others also in the business
community to contribute what they can afford to improve the healthcare
sector of the country so that all could benefit. He said that there are
no rich hearts and poor hearts and when we fall sick we are all the same
