New road to ease traffic congestion

The Ministry of Highways and Road Development commenced constructing a parallel alternative Road to ease traffic congestion in the Piliyandala town recently. The project was launched under the Maganeguwa program. The road construct from Jaliyagoda to Kesbewa Junction is a four-lane Road and the first two lanes are 20 meters wide. The Ministry has allocated Rs. 200 million for the first phase of the project and Rs. 400 million for the entire project said Highways and Road Development Minister, T. B. Ekanayaka.

Under the project the Ministry has decided to carpet the Colombo-Horana Road. According to Ekanayaka under the road would be carpeted from Piliyandala to Horana under the first phase and from Piliyandala to Kohuwala under the second phase which would cost Rs. 400 million, he said.
