Lyceum and Gateway athletes excel on penultimate day

ATHLETICS: Lyceum International School, Wattala and Gateway College,
Colombo athletes proved their class establishing four and three new meet
records respectively on the penultimate day of the three-day
International Schools Athletic Championships organised by Gateway
College and sponsored by Exlexcer International held at the Sugathadasa
Stadium yesterday.
Vijith K. Anthony of Lyceum International School, Wattala accounted
for the first record in the boys under-17 high jump going over the bar
with a height of 1.83 metres to erase off the previous mark held by
Ranishka Perera of OKI International School 1.82 metres.
Imran Azeez of Gateway College, Colombo set the record in the boys
under-20 discuss throw with a distance of 30.78 metres. Samadhi
Kusukkage of Lyceum International School, Wattala held the earlier
record of 30.45 metres.
Chamathka Kavindra of Gateway College, Colombo was responsible for
the girls' under-17 javelin throw. She hurled the javelin to a new
record throw of 29:55 metres to erase off her own mark of point 4 meters
29.51 metres.
Lyceum International School, Wattala relay quarter of 4x100 metes
under-15 girls 53.0 secs, 4x100 meters under-15 boys 45.9 sec. and 4x100
metres under-17 boys 47.5 secs broke three records, Meanwhile Gateway
College, Colombo relay team of 4x100 meters girls' under-17 set a new
record 53.8 secs.
The meet will be continued today from 8.00 a.m. and the distribution
of awards will follow around 6.00 p.m.
