 It
was a ‘culture shock’ for many so-called “decent” Asian women to see
Jennifer Lopez in her Green Versace dress at the Grammy Awards, 2000.
 But
in the eyes of famous fashion designers and models in the West (also in
the East!) it was a rare moment in the history of fashion.
Italian fashion designer Donatella Versace has repeatedly said that
the dress was “an unexpected success” comparing it with the famous
Versace dress Elizabeth Hurley wore with the safety pins along the side!
Jennifer’s dress that was cut down to her navel, shot her to fame and
acclaim among fashion experts and fans worldwide.
Popularly nicknamed as J.Lo, the 39 year old Hollywood actress,
singer, dancer and fashion designer has always been able to attract the
attention of the fashion-loving public. Jennifer who has already left
her mark on the NY catwalk, is a newsmaker for fashion and movie
magazines and tabloids worldwide.
According to ‘Forbes’ she is the richest person of Latin American
descent in Hollywood. As “People of Espanol’ says she is the most
significant Hispanic entertainer in the U.S. As many fashion websites
and tabloids say Jennifer has all the necessary qualities-beauty, brains
and figure to ‘make any look work’.
Jennifer stole the show by wearing a Roland Mouret dress to the Marc
Jacobs Spring 2009 fashion show during New York Fashion Week last
September. On another occasion her one-shoulder aqua Alberta Ferretti
gown which she wore for the Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute kept
New Yorkers spellbound.
 Her
metallic Bruno Frisoni Goddess gown which she wore on another occasion
is also much talked of. The glamorous dress worn by a pregnant Jennifer
at a gala hosted by Madonna and Gucci in New York for the welfare of
children of Malawi was the talk of the town.
In early 2007, at the 79th Oscar awards the well-known actress
mesmerized the audience wearing an embellished Marchesa gown.
In July 2007 Jennifer stole the show by wearing a one-shouldered
coral Marchesa to attend the premiere of her film ‘El Cantante’. Her
Alberta Ferretti red mini-dress too attracted the attention of many.
In 2001 Jennifer launched JLO, her signature collection of sportswear
through which she started the trend of celebrity fashion brands and has
made her sense of style and fashion available to the fair sex around the
world.
In explaining her motivation Jennifer has once said that she has
always had great respect for fashion icons and their impact on women.
“I’m working to fulfil my vision of creating a brand that incorporates
every aspect of my life. I am in the fashion business to create a brand
that will have an effect on the women’s marketplace.”
