Tree planting campaign

The cooperative sector is to plant two million fruit bearing trees on April 14, Sinhala/Hindu New Year day to augment the national food production drive Api Vavamu Rata Nagamu.

The tree planting project would start at the auspicious time on New Year day at 5.50 a.m. recommended by astrologists to start work for the coming year according to a proposal made by Minister of Trade, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs Bandula Gunawardhana, a press release from the Director of Government Information said.

The tree planting program will be inaugurated by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in the premises of the Ministry of Trade, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs on the invitation of the minister.

All employees and members of the cooperative societies will participate at this national event and coconut seedlings and plants were distributed among the cooperative societies at the CWE office, Colombo on Tuesday, the release said.
