Battle of the Golds ends in a tame draw

The 59th Annual Big Match between Prince of Wales College and St. Sebastian’s College ended in a tame draw for the 32nd consecutive year at De Soysa Stadium, Moratuwa.

Resuming at 68 for 4 Sebastians were all not for 161 runs with off spinner Shehan Jayasuriya Capturing 5 for 26 runs. In their second essay Cambrians could not consolidate their position and they declared at 120 for 8 leaving Sebastians 169 runs for an outright victory in seventeen overs. Openers Isuru Thilina scored 51 runs for the Cambrians with four fours.

The highlight of the second day’s play came from left arm leg spinner Anuk de Alwis of Sebs who bagged 8 for 53 and broke the reward of cambrians Suranga Wijenayake set in 1995. Anuk had a match bag of 10 for 85 runs when the stumps were draw in sebastians were 44 for 2 with Brian Paul unbeaten with 26 with two towering sixes.
