Y FM to sponsor under 20 Schools Rugby
RUGBY: The Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA) is
to secure a sponsor ahead of the 2009 Under-20 `A’ Division inter school
League tournament. This was necessitated as earlier sponsors (Singer Sri
Lanka), pulled out.
Now the popular private radio station Y FM on Mar 17 (Tuesday), will
finalise the agreement to sponsor. Schools Rugby Secretary Kumara
Rodrigo told `Sunday Observer’ that Y FM will sponsor.
“We are in the process of signing a sponsorship agreement with Y FM,”
he said. Y FM has indicated their willingness to come on board, as the
League sponsor. “We are glad that they have stepped into and help the
SLSRFA in hour of need.” Rodrigo said.
He expressed his confidence that the Y FM sponsored Un-20 inter -
school League will be a success during the forthcoming season.
Y FM affiliated to MBC Networks Pvt Ltd, owned by Maharaja Group is a
bilingual (Sinhala and English-Language) radio station, catering to the
youth of the country, having made its bow in the sphere of radio
broadcasting in Sri Lanka in 2006. The upcoming inter-school.
League is therefore likely to be contested for the Y FM trophy but
Kumara Rodrigo said that no final decision has been taken on the name to
be given to the title though it could be something similar to that.
The 2009 inter-school League is scheduled to kick off on April 20,
and is expected to wind up in June, making way for the Nestle Lanka
sponsored President’s Trophy Knock-Out Tournament which is slated to be
staged in July.
