NCPA looks after 4000 IDP children

Over 4000 children, sheltered in the Government controlled areas in Jaffna and Vavuniya are reported to be in the safe hands of the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA).

NCPA, Chairman Jagath Wellawatta yesterday told the Sunday Observer that not a single child abuse has been reported from the cleared areas during the past five months due to excellent welfare facilities provided.

"The NCPA, has already established a special Monitoring Mission Unit (MMU) in Vavuniya under the guidance of former DIG Daya Petikirikorala and Anton Jeganathan, to conduct all counselling and co-ordinating activities relating to children." he said.

The NCPA, Chairman also said in addition, six officials including female officers have been appointed to look into various other aspects such as mental, physical and sexual abuses that could take place at welfare camps.

"The NCPA last week provided Rs. one million to upgrade the welfare activities of the children in addition to numerous other welfare facilities that will be provided in the next few days on the instructions of Senior Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa, MP.
