Janakaraliya adorns Nuwara Eliya

Janakaraliya has been engaged in its theatre arts programs in several districts during the past 5 years.

The group has already started their theatre arts programs, workshops and other activities for this year in the district of Nuwara Eliya from March and it will go on till April 7.

Ministry of Cultural Affairs and National Heritage and Provincial Education Department of Central Province are assisting these programs.

Tamil dramas

`Janakaraliya drama festival' will be held from March 26 to April 7th in the `Mobile Theatre' which will be assembled in the Hatton, Sri Pada Maha Vidyalaya grounds for the schoolchildren and the general public. A special consideration will be given for performing Tamil dramas produced by Janakaraliya.

Two of the dramas scheduled for performance include `Charandas' which was adjudicated the best drama at the National Drama Competition 2006 bagging 9 awards in both Sinhala and Tamil categories, `Sekkuwa' - winner of 6 awards at the State Drama Festival in 1976. The other dramas to be performed are Seethambarapataya (written by Mangala Senanayake), Anadaramal, Makararaksha (translated by Cyril C. Perera), Mayapattadai and Erukkulam Poo. In addition to these dramas Janakaraliya Children's dramas `Soru Evilla' (written by Sumith Samarasinghe) winner of 5 awards at the State Drama Festival 2002, `Dev Lova Gamana', `Thirudan Vandan, `Develoha Payanam' will be performed as well. As a special event besides performing of Sinhala and Tamil dramas produced by Janakaraliya Professor Sarathchandra's `Maname' and `Sinhabahu' will also be performed in the Mobile Theatre as invitational dramas.

After the drama festival too a film festival will be held from April 8-12.

Films to be screened at this festival are `Children of Heaven,' Colour of Paradise, `No Man's Land', `Hotel Ruwanda' and `Little Republic'. These films are subtitled in Sinhala.

Workshops

In addition to the Drama and Film festivals, Drama and Theatre Workshops and drama appreciation programs are scheduled for the teachers and the school children of the Nuwara Eliya District 5th April is dedicated to the provincial artists of the district providing them the opportunity to perform their arts in the Mobile Theatre.

The `Janakaraliya Theatre Arts Program' will be conducted by Parakrama Niriella, Amitta Weerasinghe, Prematilake Perukanda, and Dilip Rohana, Janakaraliya members, Nishantha Kularathne, Sumudu Mallawaarachchi, Palitha Abeylal, Dulip Rathnayake, Muniyandi Kalidas, Sokkalingam Krishanthan, Ajanthan Shanthikumar, Verny Theresa, Arosha Tharanganee, Ronika Charmali, Sineth Devinda, Thyagaraja Shivaneshan, Manjula Ranasinghe, Tarzan Sam Paul, Rasaiah Lohananthan, Malithi Kumari, Selvaraj Leelawathie, Inoka Lankapura, Chandanie Malkanthi, Ranjith Sumith Fernando, Jayantha Muthuthantri, Dinesh Sri Livera, Suneth Shanthipriya are extending their unreserved cooperation for the program.
