Trinity take major honours in drawn game

Despite a second innings collapse Trinity College took the honours in the 94th Kandy's 'Battle of the Blues' against St. Anthony's College which ended in a draw despite three declarations at Katugastota yesterday.

Hero for Trinity was 18 year old left Shameera Wijesooriya playing in his first big match scored 114 not out with 11 fours off 205 balls which helped the Lions to declare at 293 for 7 which made the match safe for them.

When the Antonians batted they ran into in some trouble against spin of Akila Jayasundara 4 for 64 supported by Rushan Jaleel 2 for 40 and Suresh Wickrema 2 for 33.

Sixteen year old leg-spinner Akila Jayasundera made this big match memorable by reaching 100 wickets for the season when he had Adil Reyal caught behind by Gangoda shortly after lunch. Akila Jayasundera ended up with figures of 4 for 64 and has now 102 wickets for the season. Skipper Rushan Jaleel has 126 wickets.

But Trinity College in their second innings despite having a lead of 97 ran into trouble losing 5 wickets for 47 before they applied closure at 75 for 6 setting the Antonians, the target of 174 to win in 8 overs. Adil Reyal bowled well to capture 3 for 34.The Antonian chasing this target of 174 were 43 of 1 at stumps.
