Neonatal ICU for Nawaloka new hospital complex
Nawaloka Hospital PLC the pioneer among private sector health care
providers, opened their Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in their new
state-of-the-art hospital complex on the first floor recently. It was
opened by the Chairman Nawaloka Hospital PLC, Deshamanya H.K. Dharmadasa
in the presence of eminent consultant pediatricians, obstetricians and
Gynecologists.
Nawaloka Hospital's Neonatal ICU was built and is fully equipped with
all modern facilities for the emergency care of premature and term
babies, while highly qualified, trained and experienced medical officers
and nursing staff are on hand to manage any post surgical neonatal
babies. "Nawaloka Hospital is now in a unique position to provide care
for such babies. At NICU we have 12 equipped beds with ventilator
facilities and a one to one nurse to bed ratio" said Director / General
Manager Nawaloka Hospitals, Professor Lal Chandrasena.
Also housed on this same floor is the Obstetric and Gynaecology ward
with two separate operating theatres, solely dedicated for the services
of maternity patients, so that attention and care would be even more
prompt and easy. In keep with modern trends, a private delivery room
facility is available in order that husbands could be with their wives
and witness the delivery procedure.
"Our fully equipped fertility centre which is relocated on the fourth
floor of the new Nawaloka hospital complex is designed to give privacy
to our patients. It has a donor bank and we have introduced
vitrification, a new technique for freezing oocyte (female eggs/ovums).
Science has allowed us to freeze sperm and for years we have been able
to freeze embryos but it is only just recently that we have been able to
freeze eggs/ovums" said Professor Chandrasena. He went on to say that
deliveries of all premature triplets and twins too would be cared for at
the Neonatal ICU. |
