Jobs for Lankans in Japan

The National Institute of Fisheries and Nautical Engineering affiliated to the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources has found employment for 15 diploma holders in a company manufacturing fishing boats in Japan.

Maritime (Pvt) Ltd will fund the program. This initiative was taken consequent to a discussion held between the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Felix Perera and the officials of Maritime (Pvt) Ltd.The Ministry of Fisheries had discussions with several private companies to develop the fisheries sector, Ministry sources said.

The Minister said skilled labour would be required to implement development projects in the fisheries sector.

The Ministry has already taken steps to train workers at the National Institute of Fisheries and Nautical Engineering.

He said there is a great demand for Sri Lankan trained workers in the international job market and he is taking steps to create more jobs for skilled workers overseas.
