New bus service

The Deputy Minister of Public Estate Management and Development S. Nijamudeen has taken measures to launch a new bus service to meet the transport needs of the rural population living in the Ismailpuram Housing scheme in Sammanthurai Divisional Secretariat.

The deputy minister said, President Mahinda Rajapaksa has realised the importance of developing rural areas and has given prominence to village development under the Mahinda Chinthana Program with the assistance of CTB Depot Kalmunai.


Special theme agro bio-diversity

The international Biodiversity day which held on May 22, 2009 was commemorated in various parts of the world. This little theme is invasive species and their influence. On the Biodiversity day of Sri Lanka’s green movement, the special theme was agro Bio-diversity. The objective was to clarify the challenges to traditional gene resource and concert in our attempt to identify conservation world for agro-bio-diversity that was found that capacity of the gene resources to guarantee food security is immense.The enormity of the agro Bio-diversity we have and the ability to adapt to climatic changes pave way for Sri Lanka’s to be successful in the future.However, it was seen that weakness in the meteorologies in the conservation of these resources, weakness in the coordination of institutional structures and lack of clarity in legal matters have resulted in the decrease of agro bio-diversity.


Zahira Kalmunai Batch of ‘98 fellowship

The batch of `98 of Zahira College, Kalmunai, has organised on Evening of Friendship and good cheer to promote fellowship and co-operation between batch mates.The event, which take place at the Dehiwala old boys club building on June 3, will be a prelude to the events planned for the year ahead.A spokesman for the organised said all batch members and their families are invited.

Subramaniam Kanapathy Rajaram dies

The Sri Lanka High Commission in Singapore has informed the Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Colombo that Subramaniam Kanapathy Rajaram has passed away in Singapore. His address is 225/65, Dematagoda Road, Maradana, Colombo 9.

The Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry has requested assistance of the general public to trace the next-of-kin (NOK) of the deceased person.

Any information of above mentioned person’s NOK or any contract details could be communicated to the Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, No. 14, Sir Baron Jayatilleke Mawatha, Colombo 1, telephone - 2437635 and Fax 2473899.


Save cattle from slaughter

The YMBA, Dehiwela-Mt. Lavinia has launched a fund to save cattle from slaughter during the Poson season. Readers can send their contributions and donations to the Cattle Saving Fund at YMBA, Dehiwela. All cheques or money orders should be drawn in favour of the Hony. Treasurer, YMBA, Dehiwala-Mt. Lavinia and forwarded to the office of the YMBA, 200, Galle Road, Dehiwala (Phone 2723352).

Personal callers can hand over contributions to the Manager who will be present between 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. on any day of the week. All contributions will be acknowledged. The YMBA has not authorised any lists or agents.
