Mihintale Aloka Pooja begins

The 47th annual Mihintale Aloka Pooja commenced yesterday at the historic Medamaluwa of Mihintale Temple.Over 300,000 devotees are expected to participate in this event which is being sponsored by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited and the Ceylon Electricity Board.

It is also estimated that over 2 million devotees would participate in the Anuradhapura Poson Programs.

Speaking after switching on the Lake House Aloka Pooja, Chief Minister North Central Province Berty Premalal Dissanayake said that after nearly three decades a Poson Poya has dawned on which devotees could freely visit Mihintale and worship without fear. In every Poson earlier, the Pooja was held despite the attacks by the LTTE.

He said that the whole country and the nation since May 18, are rallying round the President under the shelter of the Lion Flag to win the next battle which is on the economic front.The Aolka Pooja will conclude on June 8.
